Can I use re-washable puppy pads in brooder?

While treating one of my hens who was injured I used a 36 X 36 X 23 octagon tent to keep her in our upstairs guest room. One thing I noticed quickly was way less dust and she was up there for almost a month due to the extremely cold temps. I simply washed the pads and replaced.

It got me to thinking...I have new chicks coming mid May. Would it be safe to use this same set up with the washable puppy pads I used for her until they are moved to the coop? And if so, is there a way to wash them safely for the chicks as I know they are very sensitive?

Since these guys are all being shipped I plan to have them inside for a week or two and then move the brooder to the chicken coop (we have a 12X16 shed with a 6X8 coop sectioned off inside so they would not be with the existing flock yet). I figure it would be warm enough with a brooder plate for them to stay in the shed part in their brooder - unless someone disagrees with that thinking?

I don't see why you couldn't use the washable pads. Just watch for any loose threads.
As for washing, wash like you did for your hen. I'd go with an unscented detergent if possible.

Your brooding plan sounds fine to me.
