I'm preparing to make a brooder for some Pekin Ducklings and i was wondering if this cat waterer will work?

rule is..if they can get in it, they can drown. I know a duck drown, i said the same thing. If you put some rocks in the bottom so they can't get in it, sure.

they also poop when in water, so that would deter them from making that a mess.

I used something similar, but put marbles in it. It worked fine when they were small. At about three weeks they started picking the marbles up....so I had to take it out and use a different one.

I made a wire platform that sags down to the bottom for my finches to be safe bathing in a tupperware thingy. They were not very confident to bathe unless I put just a half inch of water in the bottom and then I had to change it two or three times a day. This way I can fill it almost three inches and they can walk down the wire ramp, always with their feet on something they can get traction on... I would not put it for small chicks, maybe a couple months old.

That is a really good idea! I can picture that in my head.
When I kept lizards, I always had a problem with the crickets drowning in the water....it would work for that too! I'm going to use that idea if/when I start keeping lizards again!
