My father-in-law gave us this (and many other things he didn’t want). Is this something I can use for lighting my chicken coop? I’m trying to google but getting more confused. Maybe it’s just to charge batteries?

Usually you'll need a battery in addition to a solar panel. The solar panel keeps the battery charged. You can find some cheep 12v batteries on amazon. Just make sure the light is the same voltage. I don't see why you couldn't use it for a light!

As the package says, It is a battery charger. Listed as a battery maintainer for 12V batteries, it is most likely a trickle charger. It is not designed to use to run lighting.

yup, more of a trickle charger. I use those for maintaining battery on vehicles I don't use much. I have never found a need for a light at my chicken coop other than a flashlight for me, but I have a shed with a harbor freight solar light, but pretty sure it's got a small battery inside that gets charged up by the panel in the daytime - using this like that should work just fine
