Adult chicken lost her best friend, having a tough time being alone, is there somewhere in the Hudson Valley in NY to buy her an adult friend? Can she survive on her own? She comes in house at night so she's not alone in coop, but cries when outside by herself in her run. Is my only option to get her another chicken or will she get used to be alone? Please help, I am heartbroken.

You should probably get her a friend or two. Chickens are NOT solitary and are quite social animals. I recommend getting two in case one dies for whatever reason. I'm sorry to hear about your hens

Hope you can find a suitable friend or two for her. I feel so badly that she cries in the run. Was she ever a mama hen? I am thinking if she ever raised chicks, she might be happy with chicks now.

Welcome!

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I have been in the same situation as you and had to rush out and buy my remaining girl a friend; waive quarantine etc. For this reason, I agree that it is a good idea to not drop below 3 chickens if you can help it.

Good luck finding a new friend(s) for your lonely girl.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.
