Currently, my only mature roosters are bantam silkies, and they're pretty small. My alpha rooster keeps going for my olive egger hen (I'm guessing it's because the two of them are my only blue birds). Weight wise, she's more than 5 times his size. He goes for her every day by cornering her after she lays her egg. I've seen her submit twice. He falls off during most of the ordeal, but he'll make a motion like something is occurring. The motion will last all of 3-5 seconds. Can a bantam Wilkie rooster reach where he needs to? Is chicken copulation that fast? Has anyone had success with a bantam silkie rooster and olive egger (blue wheaten ameraucana/blue copper marans) hen?

3-5 seconds is long? Wow! I had no idea roosters were so fast! In that case, he's definitely slow especially if you add in all the time falling off her back trying to get into position.

I'll have to check Cola's eggs for fertility. I'm not going to incubate hers since her shells have been paper thin as of late (she picks out the shells from the feed). My husband said he saw my roo with our other big hen Pepper. Pepper is 7 years old but still lays eggs. Considering her temperament towards any bird apart from my duck Ming, I'm amazed Pepper didn't kill him.
