I bought and hatched 4 diferent breeds of chicks. RIR, BR, WLH, and NHR.
A couple of chicks are black with brown wings. They are not Barred Rock,
so I think they are suppose to be RIR. Most RIR chicks I have seen are
brown. Not black with brown wings.

I would say they are not RIR if they are black with brown wings. RIR's are tan when they are chicks.

No sorry they would not be RIR.

What you're describing is a Black Sex Link chicken which is a cross between a RIR and a Barred Rock. I have two of them. They tend to be on the medium side (5lbs as adult hens) and are prolific brown egg layers.

Last month I hatched out some of mine... Black Australorp hens crossed with Red or Buff rooster. The chicks are kinda smoky black with brown wings.

Here is a picture of a chick that I hatched on Christmas Day that is suppose
to be RIR. I've seen pictures of some RIR roosters and some seem darker
than other.
