Can someone explain comb type to me?

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but maybe someone can direct me. I'm still confused by comb types. Aside from color what is a pea comb? What does a single or a double comb mean? Is there somewhere I can see a really good explanation/summary of all comb types and what they mean?

Is there such a thing as a single comb that doesn't have points on it or would that only be caused by something like severe frostbite?
