I have chickens and 4 peking ducks they are about 14weeks now. So far we know we have 2 roosters in the bunch. They are on finishing food , say s until 18 weeks then switch too layer food. Is that Right? Can they all eat the layer food even roosters or do I have to seperate food.
Need some help with this?

Can't really comment on the ducks, but our hens and rooster eat the same feed.

I started mine on layer food at the time of laying. The rooster has been eating the same food for two years with no apparent ill effect.

What about feeding them a flock raiser type feed? It's good for birds of different types & ages. Just provide oyster shells free choice for the layers.

I have had some chickens on and off for years, right now I have one hen and I bought several chicks (pullets) . Until I joined BYC... I just found out the chicken scratch is a "treat".... had no clue!! And I have always used lay mash or crumbles. If I had a turkey or a duck, way back yrs. ago, I always got feed on the suggestion of the feed store. Probably was all the same, just packaged differently!! Table scraps are a do or die rush when my hens (and a couple roosters) see me coming into their pen. But I think the battle of the squirrels and me, is an endless one, they are fat and happy, because chicken scratch doesn't stay in their feeder very long! Makes me furious!! I also give the birds a flake of hay (I have horses) and they LOVE it, they eat all the little leaves in it and scratch around in the stems. In the winter I will remove all the stems that may accumulate around in their yard.
