I'm still new and I may be out of line. If I am, then Madam Moderator please feel free to discuss the issue with me. With that said, here goes:
I love animals, always have, always will. I don't draw the line at just the cute, fuzzy little animals either. With the exception of slugs and centipedes (please don't go there), every creature on this earth creates a sense of wonder and inquisitiveness in me. When I hear about a creature previously unknown to me, I immediately want to learn all I can. That's just how I am.
I religiously practice good animal husbandry practices. What that means is, if I'm going to make the commitment of having an animal, I am gonna do my darndest to provide that animal with the best life and care possible. An example of this is our so-called barn kitty. I found her as an orphan feral when she was 3 weeks old. Like alot of folks around these parts, I could have just brought her home and tossed her out in the barn, feeling good that I had saved her from an untimely death, but that's not me. She was completely vaccinated and spayed when medically appropriate, she is kept up to date on her vaccines, provided with a warm, dry place to sleep, given love and attention, and is given clean water and food daily.
When I made the decision to have chickens, it was not without alot of thought and consideration of the pros and cons. I have asked tons of questions both here and elsewhere and in essence made sure I know what I am getting myself into and that I can handle the bad parts as well as the good. I have designed and re-designed my future chickens coop and run keeping the importance of their comfort, well-being and safety in mind. I am doing for them what I do for all my other animals. With this in mind, if in the future, despite everything I've done, I do have problems with predators I will deal with it in a logical, examine-all-the-options manner.
My manner will not include shooting the pest. It's against my religion for starters, and against what my heart tells me besides. That's MY way. Your way may be completely different and that's great if it works for you. I am not gonna tell you how to raise your critters and I don't expect you to tell me how to raise mine. I might on occasion seek your advice and I appreciate it when you give it to me without judgement, as I will do for you. If I ask your advice I will take it into consideration, otherwise why bother asking? If I don't like your advice, I am not gonna throw it back in your face and say, oh! you're so stupid! That's just rude and disrespectful. I give respect and I appreciate it in return.
If someone posts a subject that I am not comfortable with, for whatever reason, I have a simple solution. I don't continue going back to that thread just so I can get my dander up even more. I simply read no further.
I love this forum, I'm so glad I found it and the many wonderful people involved with it. The thing is, we are all PEOPLE and as such, we are going to disagree on certain subjects. The question is, do any of us REALLY know that our way is the RIGHT way? Until we do, I think it's best we agree to disagree.
Sorry for the super long post, but I just had to get it out.
I wish you peace, Kat

Thank you, gritsar. That is why we have this sticky thread that everyone should be reading before posting.

You say
The question is, do any of us REALLY know that our way is the RIGHT way?

On the other side of it, do any of us know that our way is the WRONG way?

I am closing this before a big blow up happens. Thanks for understanding.
