Can we still eat?

I have a rooster who's comb got frostbit this winter. It became infected when some of the hens started picking at it. We separated him from the other when this happened, but now the entire comb has turned purple. We were already debating on butchering him. Would we still be able to safely eat the meat if his comb is infected when he is butchered?
