My pair of Gouldian finches started to breed for their first time. They both seemed really healthy and active and everything was going great. The chicks hatched 3 days ago and both parents were taking great care of them.
This morning the female was sitting on the cage floor looking sick. After only one hour she was dead!
Now the male is alone. He is still feeding the chicks in the nest and brooding them.
Does anyone who keeps finches know if its is possible for one parent to raise the chicks if its mate dies? What happens in the wild if one of the birds gets killed by a predator.. will the other parent give up on the young?
Thanks..
