Can you hear cheeping better after internal pip? OR does it have to?

PIP before you hear anything...Just curious cause my (i think 21 dayers) under my broody BO weren't making any sounds that i could hear but i wonder if its b/c they haven't internally pip'd yet? Or if you can hear them good no matter what?
