It seems to me that my 5 week old Brahma roos have a sort of "squinty" expression, making them look a little malevolent. The pullets seem to have a rounder, "softer" eye. Is this a reliable way to sex youngsters, or is it my imagination?

Even though I swear I know what some of my babies are by "looking in their eyes" I don't think this is a vaild method of sexing... unless some of you know something I do not....

Please share while so run off to stare at my chicken's eyes!

I doubt it's a reliable method. The squinty eyed look from the roos is known on BYC as stink eye. They are sizing you up; deciding whether you are a threat or not.
I get stink eye from my roo all the time, when I pick up one of HIS girls or if I wear different shoes out to the coop.

Oh, that's hilarious -- "stink eye"! Yes, it does look like they're checking out whether they could take you down or not....
