Can you order quail chicks in groups of 25?

Im raising quail next year and debating on getting an incubator and hatching them out or buying the chicks.I plan on getting jumbo coturnix but I dont know if hatcheries sell them in groups of 25 or somthing.Are there?And If I get quail eggs about 50 how many would hatch out under the ideal conditions?Im ordering from lake cumberland if I get eggs.

I built my own incubator from a styrofoam cooler, a hot water thermostat, and a light bulb fixture (with bulb of course). Cost me about $20 after scrounging up most of the parts. Took about a week to calibrate to get it running smoothly. I found most of the details on this website.

I then purchased two lots of eggs from different locations (sellers here, of course!), and had about a 85% hatch rate with both batches. I now have my second set of second generation eggs hatching out as I am typing this (6 out of 26 so far with them due Friday). So four hatching from the home made `bator with great hatch rates, so I have no reason to buy a "real one, as I'm only setting 2-3 dozen eggs at a time.

Get started on building one now, you'll be ready for spring.

Pringle If The Eggs Are Shipped 60% Hatch Would Be Fair. Anything More Is A Bonus--- There's So Many Variables With Shipped Eggs Its Hard To Tell For Sure What You'll End Up With As A Hatch--- But Look At It This Way, If You Get A 'bator You Can Continue To Hatch Any Eggs As They Become Available.... Thats Not Going To Happen If You Buy Chicks. So My Advice Is Put That Incubator And Auto Turner On Your X-mas List Kid!

Lake Cumberland Has Good Stock, I Have Used Them In The Past And Was Pleased. There's Also A Wealth Of Eggs Available To You Here At Byc. Not To Mention Eggbid And Ebay Both Sell 'em.

If You Buy Chicks They Usually Want To Sell A Large Number Or They Wont Ship Them ( Normally 50- 100 To Start) They Do This Because The Quail Babies Sometimes Dont Ship Too Well--- They're A Lil More Susceptible To Getting Cold And The More You Ship The Warmer They Will Keep Each Other In Their Journey...

You probably already have a a turner, it's called a left or right hand.

There are tons of reliable sources for eggs, Lake Cumberland, GQFMFG, have been good for me, and the BYC will be my next source when I want eggs.

Hatch your own, because incubating eggs is the easiest part of raising birds, and you don't have to deal with the nasty live chick/bird postage up charge. Also eggs are way cheaper to buy. Heck! Nice folks on this board will send you some for the price of postage....How crazy cheap is that?

Buy or build an incubator. You will be glad you did.

Well,my brother who is still in college got a job recently its some sales man job and hes making $2000 a week!He said for christmas he will buy me anything $300 and under!Im gonna get a genises,automatic egg turner just add water and it comes with quail racks to.Thankyou guys for all the info.

I'd get eggs from Lake Cumberland... when we ordered 100 bobwhite eggs, over 40 hatched.

To me the fun of hatching the eggs yourself is worth the cost of an incubator. Actually I consider myself addicted. I have the Genesis now, but I have also hatched with cheaper Little Giant that cost $40 at Tractor Supply and had good luck. I have bought all my eggs from ebay or people on here are had good luck with shipped eggs. By the way....people here sell them cheap. I have about 100 eggs in the incubator now and I am already thinking about what i can hatch next.
