Ok, as many chickens as I've had, it's been years since I've had babies. We've had them for a wk and got them from a feed store. I'm guessing they're close to 3 wks old. One the RIR chicks is holding its tail feathers way more upright than the others. The comb is slightly bigger than the others. I'd say just enough to notice. Anyway, I'm wondering if the way it's holding it's tail feather could be an indication that it's a roo. I've never been good at telling if they're boys or girls. Thanks for any comments!!!

No, the posture of a chick's tail does not tell anything on gender. In fact, my current Marans pullets hold their tails up while my cockerels hold them evenly. You'd just have to wait for things like a fleshy pink colored comb, and late on the saddle and hackle feathers should form - Although with New Hampshire and Rhode Islands, they sometimes mature a little slowly when it comes to saddle and hackle feathers.

If you really wanted to know - Pictures of them would help.
