Can You Trim off the spurs on roosters?

I have two Appenzellar Spitzhaben roosters that have never shown any aggression towards me, or anyone else for that matter, that are a year old now and have developed some pretty impressive spurs that are a little intimidating. Is it possible to cut them off without hurting the bird...like trimming off cats claws or something?
