Can anybody tell me the best way they have found to candle the dark colored pheasant eggs. Ive got 42 eggs in the bator for 10 days now and tried candeling last nite but could not see thru most of them with a maglite flashlite!!! Any help would be and is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance

Try a high-intensity flashlight from Lowe's or Home Depot:
I just have to put in a plug for my new high-powered flashlight. It is 100 lumens and 6 LED's. It cost about $20 at Lowe's and I'm pretty sure you can find something similar at HomeDepot. It put's my my mini-mag to shame! I candled all 51 remaining coturnix eggs in my incubator when I took them out of the auto-turner, and I was amazed at how well I could see the air sac level and dark area of the egg vs. the clear or murky ones. I can even see through my dark green EE eggs with this thing. If you're going to candle coturnix, I highly recommend getting one of these! We made a one inch paper cone that DH taped to the end of this small light in order to narrow the opening even further for the quail eggs. The tip about the candler came from Mahonri's post when he was hatching marans eggs "Well, we went to Home Depot and bought a light that does 105 Lumens... it has a caution sign on it as it can damage human eyes!, so we could see through EVERY egg, including the Cuckoo Marans!"

Thankyou Cheerfulchaos I had just posted on another topic where you were talking about the superduper bright flashlite so you can disregard that one. I appreciate it and will go looking for one today and try candeling again in a couple days!!!
