I have 18 guinea eggs purchased off of ebay in my bator (along with 7 Ancona duck eggs from my flock.) I candled them last night--- day 6 of hatch.

The first 5 or so I candled I saw 'spiders'--- the veins and stuff that show it's alive and developing well. The others I'm not sure what I was seeing, was kind of murky. (I have a lousy flashlight for candling, it's bright enough sometimes but other times it dims or goes out just when I want to see something in an egg.

Will continue to check as long as I can, but I thought it was odd that the first ones were all OK and the others were all questionable.

On the other hand, the 7 Anconas I candled on day 5, all showed 'spiders'. Guess that shows the difference between shipped eggs and eggs from home!

How did you successfully candle the guinea eggs? When I was incubating guinea eggs, it was awful hard to see through the shell, so would love some advice. (I used a flashlight too.)
Congrats on the ones you saw developing!

I've noticed the same thing with a lot of my eggs. I start out candling and all of the fertile ones are in a clump - the only thing I can think of is a hot spot (or cold spot) in the incubator. Maybe next time you candle they will be better. Some people move their eggs around but I'm always afraid of killing the good ones.

I candled a few again last night and think I spotted a few more definitely 'live' ones. My darn flashlight is driving me nuts, though. When it's going good it's brighter than ordinary flashlights, but it dims or cuts out all the time, particularly when the business end is next to an egg!
