Well, I put 45 eggs into the incubator. I candled them today on the ninth day. I have 21 out of 45 that most definitely have babies in there. You could even see some of them moving. Is it weird that some seem to be larger than others? On one, I could literally see it's eye ball!? I am very excited about the fact that they are growing. I am also confused about what I've done wrong with the others that are not showing signs of growth. But, I suppose this is a learn as you go thing...right? Anyhoo, thanks to everyone for all the great advice. I hope to be posting pictures of some little baby bantams in a few more weeks!!

God bless!

Are the ones that are not any good around the edges of the bator or closer to the heat element than the good ones??? Have you opened them to see if they were fertile and what stage of development they stoped at??? That would help in determining why they didn't make it... At this age if they were fertile it is usually a temp reason why they died...

Actually, at any stage of development it could be age or genetics or nutrition..... If the eggs show no development at day 9, you'll want to open them up. If they have some blood inside then they did start to develop. If they don't then maybe they weren't fertile to begin with. Maybe they were washed with soap. They might have been sitting around too long before you got them. Or they could have gotten shaken up in transit (if they were shipped or even gathered by a kid lol) There are lots of reasons why an egg doesn't develop. It's not necessarily your fault.

Some of the embryos could seem larger then others because of temperature fluctuations. You'll learn where your warm spots are in your bator. I rotate some of mine every time I candle. Even 1/2 degree difference can cause an embryo to grow slower or faster. You want a steady temp.
