whoa...i think i finally see what i am looking for...Candled 39 eggs tonight...for sure babies in at least 8 of them...i definately saw veining...still confused at what would make the tops of some look totally black inside...any ideas....i am looking at ameracaunas so they are somewhat dark, some brown, some light

What I do is roll the eggs around 45%. If the top goes clear, then a shadow appears I take it as not fertile, and the yolk is causing a shadow.

If I see a black area, that follows the egg around, then its fertile.

Mind you, I've candled two lots of eggs, and I'm nowhere near an expert, but I still got it right by culling the shadowing eggs and cracking them. No development. I had two suspect ones, which sounded sloppy at day 17-18. culled them as well, so two got past, but they were suspect.
