Candling a dark brown egg......?????

Going to start some Welsummer eggs in the incubator and in the past, I have not been able to see ANYTHING through the shell as the hatch goes on.

Anyone have any ideas or tricks to follow the hatch and be sure (as best as possible) a dud doesn't blow up?

I have quail eggs and I have missed a couple duds. I’ve never had an explosion.. hopefully I won’t ever..

I know people weigh their eggs.
That apparently helps. I've never had to try it, as I generally hatch Orpingtons.
