I'm candling EE green shells, so they are hard to see in anyway. I understand not supposed to candle, move or open incubator after day 17 anyway.

When do you stop candling? Can you see anything other than a dark mass after day 14 or so?

Sometimes that dark mass moves!!! That's the cool part, otherwise its just very full the closer they are to hatch. But I'd do it anyways since you won't be able to again soon.

Thanks ya'll! I did try candling again.. the flashlight wasn't doing it anymore... so went back to the cardboard box I'd made earlier... and low and behold I could see quite a bit of movement when I put the air cell end up to the hole! I swear I'm seeing the dark shapes and movement of little feet or something spiky looking... like when you are a kid at night and making animal shapes on the wall using a flashlight.

Out of the 5 eggs set, I'm 100% sure there are 3 LIVING chicks in those eggs... the other 2 aren't stinking, oozing... and I hated to take them out.. but there are differences... one probably died a week ago when I had a heat spike... dunno... but comparing the LIVE eggs with those questionable two make me pretty certain those questionable ones aren't alive anymore. I'm just scared to crack them open... and put it off one more day.

Tomorrow is day 17 officially (since I started the eggs at about 9pm on Nov 1) and I know I can't candle anymore.... now I lay them on their sides?

I still need to figure out the humidity issue.... how to raise it and keep it near 65%... not sure how I'm going to manage that just yet.

You stop turning the eggs at the end of day 18, so you won't set them on their sides until then. I usually candle mine when I stop turning them.

For the humidity you can add a small bowl with water and sponges in it, or you can take a piece of paper towel, roll it up, and put one end of it in the water liike a wick. Or you could put a folded paper towel in there. Either way should work.

Lands, if you have something in the 2 eggs you aren't sure about, keep them--you'll feel terrible if there is a live baby kicking around there when you crack them open. Just 4 more days, anyway.
Very slight chance of them exploding, or anything like that, if you didn't start out with cracked eggs. I have hatched quite a bit, and never had that happen. (May be about my turn, but hope not.

Thanks! Wednesday is day 18 for me and I'll candle them before I put them in the new bator... and I went ahead and set up a hatching bator since I couldn't get the humidity up to 65% in the skillet bator.

Judy, I put the eggs back in... thank you for advice! I'd taken them out, but couldn't stand to crack them open yet... guess they will get a chance unless or until they start stinking or oozing..

So glad to hear you have babies growing

Your 30$ flashight stoped working for you, LOL !!! Well hope it comes in handy for other stuff !!

As far as the 2 eggs you cant tell about, I would candle again on day 18 and see if you can tell any different !! Then up the hum and leave them alone till they hatch !!

Good luck
