I posted this question attached to another topic but it seems to be going unnoticed, so I'll make it's own topic.

It seems that I can candle everything except a light green EE that I have. Are these typically hard to candle or do I just need a brighter light source? Even did a brown one just fine but the light just can't seem to penetrate the EE.

Yep their EXTREMELY hard to candle. I have a flashlight that could shine 1000 ft away and I still can hardly see anything.

I have found it to be impossible. I just keep looking and candling though, lol. I hold my breath and pray that they don't explode. I have been lucky and caught them when they started weeping or got little cracks. My bator stunk for 3 days afterwards even with no explosion. I have used several different lights and still get nothing. My maglight has been the best for seeing into dark eggs and it still reveals nothing when used for blue or green eggs.

EE eggs aren't that hard compared to the real dark brown layers. They can be harder than lighter brown eggs or most any white eggs. Instead of looking specifically for a chick or start of a chick shine through the air sac and look along the edges of it for veins. If you see veins the chick was at least alive within a day or 2. Then you can judge the progress by how much of the egg is completely dark. After candling quail eggs and dark brown eggs I've gotten used to that being all I could see during candling. It's nice to actually have visible eggs again with this batch.
