I posted several days ago about my Silkie hen being used to incubate my friend's pheasant eggs for the first time. I tried to candle today (10 days) and can't see anything but darkness. I'm using a small mag light in complete dark. Can anyone tell me if I'm trying too soon or are pheasant too hard to candle? They're a very dark olive green.

Ringneck eggs are harder to candle than light colored eggs but by 10 days you can usually see something. I tried using one of the little maglights when the bulb in my candler burnt out but it didn't work nearly as well since the lens on the mag light kept it from fitting up tight against the egg. If you are going to continue to hatch eggs I would recommend buying a candler. Mine is an inexpensive one but works well. At this time if you cannot see anything due to the darkness of the eggs, I would just leave them under the Silkie.
