So I tried candling for the first time about 20 mins ago, I have absolutely no idea what I am doing and all the eggs looked exactly the same. I have read the topics on candling so I know how to do it I guess, but I have no idea what I am even looking for. Seen the pictures from day 7 from the topic on top, but mine look nothing like them. They were all dark at one end, and almost all through the egg was dark. Then at the other end I could see through it. I have no idea what this means.

Anyone know? Are they all bad?

Its easier to see something around 14 days or so for your first time candling! just wait a while and check again.

Ok... dark spots are good. That one end being clear is the air sac and that is good! Sometimes an egg is too dark to see veins... so seeing the dark spots already at 7 days is a positive thing. There appears to be good development. In another week it will be darker and harder to see through the egg, you may even see the birds move at that point.

Ah ok! I shall wait till the 14 day mark and try it again.

Thanks vfrem - That makes me feel better.

What color are your eggs? The darker the egg the harder to tell. On my silkies i can usaully tell by day 4 or 5 but my RIR I have to wait till about day 10.
