Ablsolutely in matters. Where is she laying these eggs. Have you fixed the no shell problem? Egg eating is something you want to break and avoid immediately unless you don't mind. Where are the nest boxes? Even if you free range you can place nest boxes around the yard up off the ground. These should be designed just like an indoor nest box, just raised off the ground. While it's nice to free range it may help to keep them inside when they first lay so they get the idea of using the nest box. Again unless you don't mind.

always the best

Egg eating and shell-less eggs at the same sure sounds like a nutritional deficiency. I would make sure they are on a good layer ration, plus free choice oyster shell. You might even consider a starter ration for higher protein for a while eand free choice oyster shell. Don't use starter ration for layers without oyster shell or some other form of supplemental calcium. As rancher hicks said, you need to teach them where to lay. Keep them in the coop until they use the next boxes regularly before letting them out to free range.

pretty sure they Know where to lay the eggs!!! hv. egg boxes. and she has layed eggs there before! (this one was layed in the run. Where do you put the oyster shells?? in the food ..... i have Purena layer pellets? i think the food source is ok?? other than food ? why egg W/no shell? stress?????

I started my chickens on layer pellets a month before they started laying and the oyster shell after they started laying and I have never had a shell-less egg. I would think you should offer the oyster shell , just put it in a dry place in the run ( covered of coarse) where they can eat it as they want. I don't buy shell anymore cause an old wise man ( my grandfather) told me to save my egg shells from cooking the eggs and crumble them up and feed them back to the chickens and I wouldn't have to buy oyster shell. Well I guess it works cause they gobble them up . The point of doing this is to replace the shell in their bodies. But you must crush them up so they don't know they are eating their own eggs.
