I have a breeding pair of chukar partridges. My hen lays an egg a day, and, yes, they are tasty (in between the size of a chicken egg and quail egg, about the same size as a pheasant egg--consistency is sort of grittier than a chicken egg, taste is very similar just a bit creamier IMO). Anyways, I've been feeding these fellas from a water dish for the past 8 months, and it's a mess. They step in it, knock it over, poop in it--long story short, it's drinkable for about 1-2 days until I have to clean and refill it. Luckily, they are native to very dry climates, so not having water for a day or two isn't the end of the world (but I've noticed my hen is usually thirsty more since she's been laying).
I tried one of those drip feeders they make for rabbits and guinea pigs, after checking reviews for a lot of them it seemed there was reviews for most of the different products that said they leaked. Well, the one I bought and tried leaked out the entire contents (8oz) within 24 hours. So, I'm back to square one.
Can anybody recommend any other methods I could try that would provide my birds with a more constant and clean source of water that they cannot walk in or knock over?
Thanks!
