I have three roosters & thirty-two hens in Virginia Beach. Eleven hens and one rooster were born in February of 2021 and the rest arrived from Cackle Hatchery in mid-March of this year. The new birds are already starting to lay.
I want to combine them all in one flock, so I can eventually utilize the coop for the old birds with a new small flock of Ayam Cemani. The "new" bird's coop has plenty of room to accommodate all 35. I've been letting the new birds free range with the old for about a week now, but they continue to primarily keep to their own flock. And at the end of the day, they all return to their "own" coop.
Free ranging together every day, do you believe that they will eventually merge?
Old Birds:
1 Ameraucana rooster
3 Ameraucana hens
4 Rhode Island Red hens
4 Jersey Giant hens
New Birds:
2 Buff Orp roosters
3 Buff Orp hens
3 Splash Ameraucana hens
4 Leghorn hens
5 Cuckoo Marans hens
6 Wellsummer hens
