i have a friend in NH who says that lots of people up there just put up easy to move canvas coops and the chickens are fine. are the chickens really fine or are they slaughtering their chickens every winter? do you need to have more chickens in a canvas coop so that the collective body heat keeps them warm?

I live in NH and I have never seen one of these, I haven't even heard of one. I would think their chickens are going elsewhere for the winter... like into the freezer. The canvas could never hold the weight of snow. The wind would blow right through. Our ice storms would crush it... etc.

I think you're right - sounds like freezer camp to me, too.

A canvas coop would never make it here - too much snow. Plus, canvas is completely not predator proof by any stretch of the imagination, even in the summer.
