Yesterday I was given a new chicken. I was told she fell out of the back of a chicken truck. I have separated her from the rest of my flock in her own pen. She doesn’t move much and sounds like she has an upper respiratory infection of some kind. I’m wondering what kind of specialty care I should be providing for this chicken, if any at all. This is my first time taking in a rescue so I’m new to this. Any help is appreciated!

Well, I would cull this bird. Do not ever take a bird you feel sorry for, and I am hoping that you have this bird a LONG ways away from your flock. A sick bird can wipe out your entire flock. You need to be practicing the strictest of quarantine steps, changing clothes, changing foot wear, different feed bowls, and a great deal of separation from your flock. Most backyard set ups really do not have the setup to correctly quarantine, and if you don't do it correctly, you may as well not do it at all.

I know that is not the advice you want to hear, but you are risking a great deal, the health of your entire flock.
