...I always wondered why my hens would be the target and not the roosters; and so I wished that if something was going to eat any of my chickens, why couldn't it eat one of the roosters?! Well, tonight I found one of the bantam roos missing - and then I found it in the middle of the pasture with the head, neck, and just a bit more than that gone. There really weren't any feathers scattered anywhere. I am not sure what got to it. Maybe a dog or cat? It had to have happened during the day because this boy is always the first into the roost at night. It wouldn't seem Quite so bad, except that this is the little bird my son selected from the bantam bin last year(we called him "Bonaparte, the little general"). And even that wouldn't be so awful, except his hamster also died today. My poor boy, I really feel for him!!!

to you and your son. What a tough day.

that's terrible!!! Your poor son. Life's lessons are often learned the hard way.

Silly little animals... why couldn't one of them waited a day or 2!

Letting your son have a "funeral" for his hamster and little roo might make him feel better. It always did for me when I was a child.... Actually, its a habit I still haven't outgrown.
So sorry for your loss.

Good news, my son seems to be taking things pretty good. He is looking forward to picking out a new little bantam And a new hamster(guess the last one bit him, who knew?). Maybe sometimes as parents we feel soo much for our kids, and our hearts go out to them, then they surprise us and are really stronger than maybe we think!! I love my boy so much, he really is a Great kid. Oh, and I don't mind getting to go shop for new critters too(fuzzy butts here I come!!) - it is a fun time spent with my son.

Thank you All for your very kind words, it really means so much to me!!
