Is it bad for my chicks, chickens and ducks to eat cat and dog food? The dry kind. Thanks, Sylvia

I don't think it is necessarily bad for them, but I guess it may throw off their diet a little. Mine actually eat dog food fairly often when the sneek in the garage.

I was wondering about this as well. The first thing some of our hens do in the morning is haul ***** to see if the dog bowls are out! It's pretty funny! Anyways, our dogs have a weird eating schedule-they'll eat 1/2 the bowl at night and 1/2 in the morning. I try to bring the bowls in at night. The dogs eat grain free dry with Canidae canned plus my own homemade mix of chicken gizzards, veggies, ground turkey, pastured eggs and sometimes chicken livers. My only concern is I'm giving the dogs some arthritic blend supplements and was wondering of that would affect the hens. It's glucosamine, boswellia and curcumin. So far, so good. Egg count does not seem to be affected. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The only thing I'd check is if the nutritional content is out of balance in such a way that the chickies might get too much of something (vitamin A?). That is part of the problem with feeding dog food to cats. Sure they eat it, but they have different nutritional requirements.
