cat food supplement question

From time to time I read about supplementing protein with cat food. What kind? and how much? dry, moist? flavor? brand?

any suggestions? Thanks

Hello nuchickontheblock. I've seen people on this site warn about feeding too much cat food because of the salt content. I have never fed cat food to mine. Other sources of protein you could try are scrambled eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese and meat scraps. You might want to search this site (using Search in the upper right hand corner) for information on feeding cat food to chickens, until someone comes along to give you more information than I can.

For 5 hens*, I probably give them a total of 1/2 c. per week. It's a protein supplement that I add to a mix of several different whole grains, used as scratch for them, especially when molting.

Forgot to add: I use a high-quality dry cat food.

*full-sized adult hens, over a year old.
