I've seen threads about dog food and the importance of good quality food...
What about cats?
We generally feed our cat Purina One.. but she has had UTI's as did our older cat (she is 17 and only eats canned food now..)
I've heard that UTIs are caused by ash fillers? would switching to a better food avoid these problems?

cats need a lot of protein. I feed mine a grain free diet that is high in animal proteins, not grain proteins. This improves over all health and cuts down on uti's. I learned this the hard way when I used to feed my cats a high grain cat food and one had uti's all the time. Now I feed taste of the wild and have happy, healthy cats.

Anything you buy at the grocery store for any animal is generally bad. We now feed BG-before grain. When pricing foods at the petstore it turned out to actually be cheaper than stuff like nutro and it's grain free. We were using chicken soup for the cat lover's soul which you can find at feedstores. Wellness is a good brand and not real expensive while being sold at many big petstores and all pet food specific stores like dog bakeries.
