I have a female cat, a beautiful long-haired girl, that we adopted from a friend. She showed up at their house, and was hanging out on their back porch. The friend and her elderly mother are allergic to cats, and the cat kept getting between their feet and tripping them.

So we brought her home on New Year's Eve, not knowing anything about her. We think she's young, as she's seal point Siamese colored, and is mostly quite light still. We planned to get her to the vet in February to get her spayed, if she wasn't already. She settled in beautifully, and acts as though she's been a pampered house cat all her life. The little male inside/outside cat that we have is in and out all day long, and she never wants to go outside with him.

About three weeks ago, she went into heat. You can't spay an animal that is in heat, so we dealt with her horrible hormonal behavior for 6 days, and have her set up to be spayed in a couple of weeks.

SURPRISE!!! Last night the hormones started again, and I have a horribly yowly, miserable cat running around the house. I've got tomcats hanging around my front door, and she's looking for ways to get out.

Is this normal? I've never had a female housecat before, and have never paid attention to the cycles of the female barncats outside. Do they always go into heat this frequently? Or is there something else going on with this poor cat?

Thanks!

I know with first heats in dogs they can have a double heat/ a heat back to back. It could be this.

Good luck with the battle of wills, yours to keep her in and hers to get out!

Yes, cats will go into heat almost non-stop. And a cat in heat CAN be spayed, but it will cost extra.

Yep, they can go back into a heat shortly after they finished their last one. If she's part siamese I feel for ya. Been there, done that, still have most of my hearing and sanity intact. I always wondered how someone that owns a cattery full of breeding siamese protects their hearing.
Cats can be spayed in heat, but it's usually more costly and it can get complicated with excessive blood loss, etc.
ETA: Sorry ranchhand, guess I'm stalking you again today.

Call your Vet she can also have a infection if she is staying in heat, she can and needs to be spayed as soon as possible. I have had one spayed in season before and there are more risks of bleeding but it can be done although around here it will cost about 10-15 more.

Cats are stimulated ovulaters and will keep coming into heat till bred. You can stimulate her yourself I did this with a cat I had that came into heat before I could get her spayed. I dont' know that I should go into the details on here with that though you can look it up or ask a vet.

Her appointment is next Thursday morning. She isn't exactly staying in heat... just dove right back in quickly. Her last day of acting hormonal was 10 days ago, and then it started up again yesterday. I called the vet's office, and they said they could do the procedure if she's in heat, but I can't afford to get her in until next week. I didn't ask them about doing the procedure while she's in heat before, because I'd read online that it's too risky to do it while they're in heat. So I was going to wait until she was back to normal.

Thanks everyone!

It will keep recurring that way. When a female is not stimulated, she will end her heat and go right back into it very soon. If she is stimulated, she may go into a false pregnancy and then return to being in heat, or she could skip the false pregnancy and go straight back to the heat cycle.
