Catching a Feral Cat

I have a feral cat inside this house. I need to catch it for its vet appointment tomorrow.

The cat is currently hiding in the very back of the house. I put the carrier in the front and blocked off extra space with boxes.

My plan is to scare the cat into the front part and block off the rest, so (s)he will basically be forced to go into that carrier.

I absolutely need to catch this cat without it escaping. If any one else has a better idea, please let me know. I can take more pictures if you need them. Thanks .

Boxes may not be enough against a feral cat. Do have any scrap plywood, cinder block, etc? Your plan sounds good, I just wouldn't trust cardboard to hold up against a feral who is scared witless.

I got the cat, thanks . She did jump on the boxes, but we poked her through the wire and she went into the crate. The hose helped tremendously. Poor kitty, she was just starting to get used to me. But I don't think there was any better way to get her in there.

Glad you caught her! Sometimes they can get so crazy about being caught they can do rhings you'd never imagined! Thank you for catching her and getting her to a vet. Getting her fixed,I hope?

Yes! My neighbor down the street has at least thirty feral cats in her yard. I've already taken in a kitten that moved in under my shed and now this cat. I've tamed the kitten, but will probably just release this kitty back into her yard. I can't afford to take in all her cats!

Dang, I wish I could help! There are so many that don't get their cats or dogs fixed and just let them overpopulate until some disease comes through and kills them all. It breaks my heart.

There are many trap and release programs that will cover the spay/neuter cost. Maybe there is one one your area?
I do understand not being able to afford taking care of everyone else's animals. We live in the country, farmland for miles, and get way too many dumped animals. Shelters won't take them because we aren't in the city or because they are full. I have had to start running them off and it hurts my soul.

Maybe you should invest in a live trap or borrow one from the local animal shelter? Is there an organization in your area that has a Trap, Neuter and Release program of feral cats? In some communities they will do that, put a notch or something on a cat's ear that's been neutered before they release it. Eventually the feral cat problem gets under control.

They won't help because the cats are not on my property. I would have to get the whole colony to relocate. And my family would have a fit. They are already not happy about the extra cats.

I have one, that's how I caught the kitten and this cat. All I can do I guess is keep setting the trap and hoping I catch cats and not skunks, but I can't afford to fix all the cats myself. The organizations won't help .

That's really too bad. I'm sorry but I get it.
It benefits the whole community to do this.
We have problems sometimes with stray dogs, and since we're in the unincorpirated area of the county, it's nobody's problem.
