Catching chickens with a net?

I saw an ad somewhere for a fishing net type contraption with a flat side (to lay against the ground) and a longish handle. Usually I can catch my year-old chickens by approaching them slowly, but we have some young ones who are a little more hyper and sometimes I just don't have time to chase one for 10 minutes!

Has anyone seen the net I'm talking about in a poultry catalog or on the internet? I want to check it out and decide if it is something I should buy.

Thanks.

DO NOT tell DH this, but I regularly use his deep sea fishing net to catch birds. I just make sure all of the feathers are out of it before I put it back...

I just used a net to catch my new girl and bring her home the other day. You shoulda seen the look on my face lol I had NO clue how to catch a chicken with a net! My girls at home I just pick up, they don't really run. But this new girl had some moves! It was an interesting scene to watch I am sure hehe.

I use a plain old fishing net that we bought at gool ol' Wal Mart to catch those difficult chickens when I absolutely must. The vast majority of the flock comes to my call and lets me pick them up but a few young roos are a little skittish. Works great!

I've seen that add. Get it and while your at it get one for me.

I have a regular large fishing net with large holes and it works good for the large ducks and chickens, but. I've seen that ad and if I didn't already have one I'd get it cause that would be better because of the flat side. I've caught them and they walk right out the raised side if I'm not fast enough to get my net DOWN. I might still get one.

A loooooong handle for a better reach and a net with small holes is best. Right now I wish I had a smelt net for these little quail, cause the net I have, ducklings, quail and little chicks go walking right on through once I catch them. I'm getting to old to chase little chicks or quail around the yard. The quail must feel sorry for me though. Lately when they hop out of the pen, they just stand there waiting for me to pick them up and put them back in. Crazy Quail. Probably the same one just likes teasing me.

I use a regular fishing net. DH put a long handle on it, mainly because one of the grandsons roke it while helping catch chickens. The long handle works great. I only use it when absolutely necessary. They usually come when called and with a few treats I can trick them into going in the coop early if I need to. I do have a few that have figured out the trick though. If I can't just catch them by hand I break out the net. Just seeing the net sometimes makes them run to the coop.

I have a few chickens that don't like to be picked up either, and I like to check them regularly for mites, etc....I use an old fishing net. They certainly don't like it, but it works.

Out of total necessity, we had to do this once and yes, it does work, but I'm going to get a real chicken-catching net so I can get them during the day when I need to! I'm sure there are others out there that have done this too, but it does run a risk for the birds!
