Cats and kittiens

Why is it everyone thinks it is the owner's responsibility to "lock up" their chickens for their protection? I feel like I ought to be able to do anything I want on my land. I'm not hiding from the boogerman. I'll meet him at the door.

Oh I throw rocks but not to kill them though just to scare them off that's all. I should mention that I live in a small town I think we have animal control here so that's good. I have to worry about other things other than cats like hawks, eagles , buzzards all kinds of wonderful predators .. I do let them free range but I do sit out there with them...

No one has a problem with me having chickens they like it cause of the eggs...

Most cats don't like sudden sprays of water.. perhaps a few meetings with a hose might make them find someother place ot hang out. Or get a well trained dog. No cats dare our yard with our border collie on duty.
