Here is a pic of the door on the hoop coop (litterbox nesting boxes, feeders, flock block, dust bath, etc.) This west end is covered in clear vinyl as a winter windbreak - otherwise, there's a decided windtunnel effect when the wind kicks up:
The sandbox is mostly used to cool them down - I spray it with water and they love to lay in it in the summer time. Their dust baths are taken in my vegetable garden, at the moment.
We have 13 chickens in that hoop coop at night. Our dogs stay inside at night, although I had to get up at 3:30 this a.m. to let them out
...does that count, heheh?? So far, the hens have been up the chunnel and into the crate coop...but they prefer to sleep in the open night air. I imagine I'll have to lock them in it if the temps go down to the teens or we have heavy rains -- otherwise, they're very happy in their hoop coop.
I've found coyote droppings 10' away from the HC - but they've never broken in, nor have I found any evidence that they tried (so far...)
We just finished the crate coop this weekend and I'll post pics on a new thread - don't want to hijack this one...
