Alright so for FFA I had to take 4 of my chickens to my school shop for a petting zoo. Along those four, I chose a black sex link that I had really liked because it was a very calm bird. All day the hen was acting up, trying anything to get out of the coop. My initial thought was that she didn't have enough privacy to lay an egg and she really had to lay it. Well sure enough, later in the day, it laid an egg. After that the hen was perfectly fine and was acting normally. After school I had a basketball meeting so I left my chickens in my car for maybe an hour and the temp was probably 32F. I brought them home finally to regroup with the flock and everything was fine. Flash forward to about 3:30 the next day I went to go check for eggs and the black sex link was dead. My mom was out there at around noon the same day and they were all fine. When I checked them at 3:30 their water was low and a few of the chickens were a bit thirsty but nothing extreme really. Do you guys have any idea what the cause of death could be?

Stress, dehydration? With no necropsy all anyone can do is guess. If the area where they were kept at your school had shatter-proof teflon treated lightbulbs that would be a problem. Like I said, it's all just guessing.

Why can't they have a shatter-proof teflon light? What happens to the chicken?
