cayenne in the water

People mention this all the time. But what's a good amount to add? My youngest really wants to try it, as her egg business is suffering from the winter doldrums.

Approximate proportions, please?

i only have 3 chickens and use a 1 gallon plastic waterer. I shake it like 3 times, just enough to tint the water. after 2 days they started laying. i do this every 2 days when i change the water and the 3 hens produce 2-3 eggs a day. I have 2 RIR and a BR.
