I've had two Cayuga ducks for three years now. The first two years they did the expected by starting off laying nice black eggs (which I saved HOOT!). However, this year they have not laid a single egg yet. The WH female has been laying regularly for several weeks now. Has anyone else run into this problem?
Frustrated in central MA :(

Just gonna let you know that my buffie girls are laying, one runner laid two or three eggs a few weeks ago, and that's been that so far. Usually the runners only took a couple months off. But "usually" doesn't really mean anything, they're only 3 years old. But they quit laying last October, I would think they'd start up.

But

We did get a drake last October. Coincidence?

His presence seems to stress the runners. So I am chalking it up to that.

You know after I posted this I thought of how I moved them into a new coop - but that was mid October 2012. I think its possible the drake "could" be causing the delay but then again "who knows"?

I'm just curious to see if any other Cayuga owners have seen this happen as well.

BTW cloudy days seemed to stress my chocolate runner Lady Godiva (who sadly was killed by a raccoon last fall) lol. I think I will add a few more runners to the flock next spring though. They were so much fun to watch. This time I will name one Dawn after the hysterical NERVOUS Don Knott's movie characters of the 1960s. Ut oh I'm dating myself here...

I know who you're talking about
