Hello!
We live in Central Florida… closer to the west coast.
My neighbor asked me if we have any mature roosters we need to rehome.
We do not. We have just one rooster left, that we want to keep. But I told her I would ask here.
If anyone here has a mature rooster they want to rehome, she has a horse farm where they also raise chickens, for eggs & meat. They need a few mature roosters for this coming spring.
She’s willing to pick up a rooster if it isn’t too far away.
Let me know if you have a mature rooster you need to re-home.
Thank you.

Hi there, we are also in Central Florida, closer to the East coast though. I’m not sure how mature she is looking for, but I have some beautiful babies who are almost 12 weeks old. Of the 6 I ordered, I’m afraid 3 may be roosters, one for sure as he was crowing from inside the coop when they heard me coming this morning. No one would fess up who it was by the time I got there. :)

Here is the scoop if something she may be interested in:
Alchemist Eggers (from Alchemist Farms) and all 3 that are looking to be roosters are frizzle! They are extremely cute with their frizzle feathers and are sweet and healthy. 1 each of white (splash), grey (blue) and black. They have been raised on organic feed & herbs thus far and will eat out of my hand. I may not know which for sure are roosters for a bit longer, and I’m also happy to keep them for longer if she isn’t ready yet. It’s breaking my heart that I can’t keep them all (zoning issues), also breaking my heart that all of the frizzles I got may be roos.

While it may be a bit longer before we know for sure, I’d be happy to bring them to her once we do, I haven’t found anyone over here that is looking for roos so it would make me feel better to know they are going to a farm, and staying in Florida as I’m pretty sure they love it here. ;)

Side note: do you mind me asking where you typically get chicks from? If I will truly be down to only 3 hens, I’d like to get a few more & curious where others in Florida purchase from. I’m primarily interested in green eggs but obviously health is most important. Thanks so much!

Oh my gosh!! That’s so funny! Are you from California originally? I am & I personally have 2 Alchemist Blues, 2 FBCM, 3 (used to have 4 😔) Azure Eggers. I also ordered 2 Moss Eggers from Alchemist farms. They gave us 3 Moss Egger chicks with our order, but all 3 of them ended up being roos. We kept one (Polko, in my profile pic).
I gave one of the roos to my neighbors’ farm egg operation. I will say, I don't know how attached you are to those boys. If you want someone to take them as a pet, this would not be the situation you’d prob want. Our situation was literally culling, or giving him to them, where he would have a chance to have a coop with some hens for as long as he was useful to them. Which was better for him than the alternative. As far as I know it’s not a free-range situation. They have multiple coops, and a breeding operation for each. Eggs & eventually meat, once they’re past their prime.
I’m not sure if they would want a roo as young as yours, and I’m not sure they would want the frizzle in their breeding program. They breed for eggs mostly. Not sure how large your frizzle breed is, or how well they breed for eggs. Please tell me about it! I’d like to learn.
I can always ask her if they’re interested. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I’m not sure how successful they have been at finding a couple mature roosters so far.
I do have a number of someone who breeds Easter Eggers... near Micanopy FL. You might be able to get some chicks from her that would lay green eggs. Only reason I know about her is because across the street from her is where I buy our chicken feed. New Country Organics brand (All soy free. Also they sell corn-free, for the summer). Let me know if you’re interested. I can give you her number, for the Easter Egger chicks. In fact… you might even be able to talk to her & ask if she’s interested in a frizzle breed Easter egger roo. (That’s basically what the Alchemist Farm breeds are. They just gave them specific names.) Could possibly even arrange a swap. You never know! 🤷🏼‍♀️

How funny! We aren’t from California but on a visit to the Sonoma area, heard of AF then did more research etc etc. The Alchemist Eggers line seems to be relatively new for them so I can only go on what they list on their site, they claim to be standard size birds who are good layers of green/blue/tan eggs and 50/50 chance of being frizzled, but are okay in the heat. The frizzle part has been true with mine, time will tell on the rest!

I would love the name of the breeder in Micanopy! (we are in that area quite a bit 🐊) I will be looking into your feed supplier as well, thank you so much for that recommendation!!

I hear you on your neighbor and what could become of them, like you said, better than the alternative if I can’t find them homes. You’ve definitely given me some valuable information, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I can respond again in the coming weeks as I know more about how many roos I end up with in the case your neighbor is still looking.

So nice to hear from other Central FL peeps, with so many threads on cold weather and such, sometimes I worry that the heat/humidity here is something to worry about. What have been your favorite breeds so far?

I have 2 roosters that need a home. My sons father bought the kids chickens without thinking it through. They were supposed to be for eggs but apparently he didn't think about the fact that some of the chicks may not be very chickY when they get older. Well needless to say we ended up w 2 roosters. They're both free to a good home.
