Chain link fencing?

My husband is going to begin building our coop soon and we had a few questions about fencing materials. Our plan was to build a coop big enough for us to walk into and enclose it with a 6' chain link fence that would serve as their ranging area.

Is chain link secure enough? We would have the roof enclosed with chain link also.

Any suggestions before we begin building would be appreciated.

Chain link will keep out the majority of your larger predators like dogs, coyotes.

There is the RARE dog that has learned to scale chain link fencing, but then again, nothing is ever 100% secure.

Keep in mind though that smaller preds like weasels, snakes, rats, etc will be able to get through, and even larger ones like a racoon or cat may be able to put a paw though and snatch a bird or chick.

Then there is the top - if you don't cover that you run the risk of flying preds.

Ah well...having said all that, I use chain link for the fencing around my coops, covered with PVC and deer netting and have had absolutely no problem with predation. Of course i do have dogs on both sides of the chicken run and am living in suburbia where the worst predator we have is a fox, rogue dog or racoon.
