I was just wondering if anyone else has ever noticed a change in the pecking order when one broody of the flock is put in isolation for the purpose of breaking her. The broody was #2 in the flock, and now that she is broken and released, our #1 hen acts like she is afraid of everything. Our #3, our little EE, Ginger, seems to have moved up in status.

Any ideas if this may be a permanent shift in power?

Thanks,

When I isolated my broody she was in the middle of the pecking order, and when I later re-introduced her, she was at the absolute bottom of the pecking order, and that's how it's been ever since. And yes, the pecking order did move around a little and remained that way. So I wouldn't be surprised if it were permanent.
