Changing user name?

I am wanting to know if I can change my user name without loosing my current standing? Not sure if this is the right thread to ask?

Occasionally a moderator is willing to do a username change, which will not delete any of your account info. Only one change is allowed per user though, so be really sure of the name you want before you ask!
