How many times a day should I change my ducks' water since they dirty it up so quickly? I have 4 Pekin and 5 Mallards (month and a half old).

This has been so helpful! :) I HAVE been driving myself crazy and I just have four 8-week old ducks (one of which I'm pretty sure is a drake--hoping it's just one!). The kiddie pool info was helpful, too. Our local North 40 has a poultry expert (his other job is at a poultry farm). He told me that they really don't need a kiddie pool (had already bought one) that a sprinkler works great. I did turn the sprinkler on when it was 107 this past week...they LOVED it!

I change the water often during the day. I have three water sources on each side of my pen. I seperate my two males from my three females currently. The girls have a roasting pan that holds 3 gallons of water, that they bathe in. A bucket that holds a gallon and a small Tupperware that holds about four cups. The two smaller one I keep inside of a bigger container. So when they are messy the water that spills over is caught in the bigger pan. It keeps the water cleaner longer bc its not as easy to make mud in the pen. It also cuts down my worries that when im gone for a few hours they have more then one source if they get one too muddy. The boys have a small kiddie pool in addition to the other half of the roasting pan and a one gallon chicken waterer inside of a pan. Thats my system. Then when who ever is outside ranging they have a bigger kiddie pool. I change the kiddie pools depending on how gross they are every day or every other. The pans about twice a day and the smaller ones about twice too.

They don't have to have a kiddie pool but mine sure love it. I am not as good a duck mom as some others. I have three kiddie pools and I only dump and clean about once a week unless they get extra yucky. Mine love showers too. I hadn't thought about a sprinkler, will try that tomorrow. Thanks for sharing.

Love the sprinkler idea!!!

We change the water in the stock tanks morning and evening. I have 40 waterfowl sharing 5 tubs, so changing that often is pretty necessary.

We have two small baby pools. We fill them both in the morning. We have two water containers close their food. We then empty the pools at night and use the water for the lawn and plants. The two other containers are refilled periodically throughout the day and then finally for the night. They seem quite content with that.
