Hello, I was wondering if any one knew how many eggs a year Chanteclers lay? I was also wondering what colour there eggs were? Any help would be much appreciated.

They lay brown eggs and are good layers throughout the winter. Don't know how many they lay a year.

According to the reading I have done, the original White Chantecler was bred to lay upwards of 210 eggs per year. This was of course in Quebec, taking into account the short and very cold winter days. No supplemental light or heat required. Only a dry place out of the wind and snow with good food.

They were bred to lay eggs and grow a good carcass no matter how cold and dark it was.

This has nothing to do with the OP's original questions - my girls just started laying - but Chantecler admirers might find this interesting. My flock was Pullorum tested today by the State of IL tester who has been testing livestock for the state for 30 years. Mine were the first Chantecler he ever tested, or for that matter had ever heard of. He was especially taken with the Partridge pullet.

When it came time to fill out which breeds I own I was disappointment to learn that the NPIP form had white and partridge but no buff. They must base their codes on APA designation.

All the birds passed of course and I learned how to do the testing - roosters really do have much tougher skin than pullets

Partridge Chantecler eggs. ^

Usually grade out at Medium size. Shades of brown varies between birds and within the cycle of a bird. Some are lightly freckled, and some are darker at one end. Mostly non-shiny finish, condensation starting as 4/6 of these were out of fridge.
