Have a rooster about 8 months old. Been pretty mellow up to now. He has become very protective of the 8 hens and recently starting lunging at us. It may be a stage not sure but we have grandkids that visit and do not want to take a chance with him.

Hi! I am sorry your cockerel is being aggressive. There are many articles on BYC about dealing with aggressive roosters that I recommend reading.

Try posting in Your State Thread, and seeing if anyone is interested in adopting your cockerel.

Also try contacting local hobby farms or local FB chicken groups.

Thanks, yes I’ve been reading a lot on how to handle. It’s been hit and miss the last couple weeks. He may be just going thru his teenager stage where he thinks he is smarter than me. lol

My cockerels always have an attitude until the become full~fledged roosters. Then they only have a small attitude haha.
