What can I use that is pretty cheap as a cover for my run? It must hold up to 30+ winds we get regularly. Not much rain here in the desert, so doesn't have to be rain proof just provide shade. I did try a tarp, but the wind just tore it off the grommets. Any suggestions?

Heavy duty. Was from ones of those kits used to make a garage structure. Used one of those cheap flimsy tarps on my hay last year & it lasted all of 2 seconds!

How about some jute fabric, the kind that is used to protect bushes and stuff in gardening? It's not as tightly woven, so it should let through some more air while still providing shade. Also, it looks pretty nice. Or heck, go to a surplus place and buy some camo nets and build your own chicken pillbox

Thought about that. It's expensive. I put an ad on CL. Hopefully someone has a few extra pieces. Right now I have rope that I had strung across in a grid. Just don't have the funds right now to do aanything else. Trying to save up, but my truck had other ideas as to what I should do with that money!

yes, this! I may just do this as well...I'm in the most windy state in the Union though, not sure how long it'll last. Do they make them specifically to withstand desert sand storms? I need some of those.

I've usually had some hanging right by the sea as a blind for grey goose hunting, I've left it there all summer with storm winds reaching 25 m/s and had no issues. Then it's only been hanging on some branches, so not a sturdy construction in any way, but the net lets wind through pretty nicely. I think it's a surplus NATO net I've got, so probably similar standards as US made ones. Mine's German though, and they tend to pay attention to detail when making anything. Might be an idea to put two on top of each other to provide more shade.

The jute fabric would have a bit more drag, but would probably provide more shade and look a bit prettier. I know I wouldn't want something that looks like a huge sniper blind in my back yard. The jute might be cheaper too in some big boxstore that sells gardening stuff.
